As a new gardener, (like, I’ve NEVER successfully grown a garden,) I was glad to find this book. I’ve tried gardening in the past and just got tiny little weak looking plants and whatever did manage to grow was eaten by bugs, I didn’t want to use chemicals to enrich the soil and keep bugs away and this book showed me exactly how to do that! The author explains what plants to pair together to keep away pests, and WHY that works so well. She also shows how to enrich the soil naturally in a way that I could understand. She offers step by step directions that make sense. Annie also had tips to make the most of my garden space, (which is not very much) and included a chart to refer to plant pairings and soil improvements. I loved the explanations, for example, why tomatoes and basil work well together. If you want a thriving chemical free garden that maximizes your space, this book is for you!

I’ve wanted to try raised bed gardening for years but always felt too intimidated to start—so many YouTube videos, so many soil “rules,” and I had no clue where to begin. This book totally changed that. It breaks everything down in such a simple, straightforward way that even someone with a black thumb can feel confident digging in.
The tips on soil mixes were super helpful, and I loved that it included natural pest control ideas—no harsh sprays, just practical stuff I can actually use. It also gave me ideas for how to set things up on my small patio, and now I’ve got tomatoes, basil, and even some lettuce going!
The bonus eBook was a nice surprise too—it had seasonal checklists and a few fun DIY ideas that I’ll probably try next.
If you’re new to gardening and want something that makes sense without making you feel overwhelmed, this book is a total win. Wish I had grabbed it sooner!
